Brookvale Entertainment Precinct

Last Thursday night in NSW Parliament, Michael Regan MP delivered a Private Member's Statement calling for a Special Entertainment Precinct in Brookvale. He named John Meredith, Lara Allport and myself for the work we've done with Brookvale Arts District (BAD).

I've been in the arts a long time. Long enough to have seen cycles like a cultural venue closing, a program losing funding, or artists being unable to support their own practice while giving their best to the community. The best lesson has been learning to manage expectations and move on.

So having that work acknowledged on the parliamentary record is not something I take lightly at all.

Brookvale is no longer a proposal but a functioning creative precinct that a Member of Parliament is now asking Council and the NSW Government to protect before the next inevitable wave of development changes it.

We've spent years coordinating as a team and doing work that is mostly invisible, sometimes even to the people who benefit from it. Last night, it wasn't.
